The south-west’s finest harmonica players will converge on Warrnambool’s Jazz Blues Restaurant this Saturday night for a unique celebration of the instrument. Harpin On A Riff is a tribute to the history of the harmonica, from early Black American work songs and spirituals to the foot stomping Chicago harmonica years of the 60s. Event coordinator Wally Edney said the performance would be recorded and released as a CD in the middle of the year. Around eight different duos and bands will perform throughout the evening, featuring musicians like Big Walter, Brett Holbrook, Andrew Flook, Rob Moore and Brendan Dowd. Fifteen-year-old steel guitar whiz kid Luke Watt will lend his talents to the evening, as well as emerging vocalist Angela White. Wally said the night was one not to be missed, and it seems plenty of people agreed with him — tickets have already sold out.
