THE son of a former Warrnambool musician is odds-on favourite to win the grand final of X Factor.
Cyrus Villanueva is through to the top three ahead of Monday and Tuesday’s grand final after being voted “safe” by the public for the whole competition.
Villanueva is the son of Joe Vill, who left Warrnambool more than 20 years ago after being a regular covers performer for many years at the Grand Hotel, the Tatts, the Lady Bay and other venues.
Now based in Wollongong, Villanueva is favoured to beat NSW duo Jess & Matt and Mt Gambier’s Louise Adams, who is a regular performer at The Loft in Warrnambool.
Villanueva performed with his father in January at the Benefit For Boyd concert at the Whalers Hotel in Warrnambool.
The 19-year-old singer’s X Factor performances have been featuring regularly on the iTunes chart, with his cover of his mentor Chris Isaak’s song Wicked Game reaching #1 last month.
