Hank lends a hand for 3WAY

Hank lends a hand for 3WAY - published in the Warrnambool Standard  Sept. 14th 2015

AMERICAN country music icon Hank Williams died in 1953, but he’s still doing his bit for Warrnambool community station 3WAY FM

The annual Hank Williams tribute night has been running since 1999 and takes place on Thursday at City Memorial Bowls Club from 7pm.
Organised by Hank fan Mick Schack, the night stars over a dozen south-west acts and is 3WAY FM’s major fund-raiser for the year.
As well as Hank songs, this year’s theme is “place names”, in honour of such Williams songs as Alabama Waltz, Tennessee Border and California Zephyr.
Acts on the bill include Big Love, Lee “Sonnyboy” Morgan, Tank Dilemma, Trevor Keilar, Kayla Dwyer, Lost In Suburbia, and Robyn Gleeson, Streamline, and more.

Loudmouth

Loudmouth first formed in early May 1991 as a Ramones cover band (under the name The Headbangers), with the intention of playing for fun at a party.

Dave, Gary and Robbie were already in another Warrnambool band, Bryon.  Dave and Robbie had previously played in several local bands, and Gary had played in Melbourne bands such as Death Sentence and S.T.P. Lots of fun was had at that first gig, and after another party at the Warrnambool Golf Club (where you can't dance on the carpet - only the dancefloor!), further jam sessions resulted in the first original songs (including "Planet K-Mart", "This is Warrnambool" and "Sheep Creep").

The first pub gig for Loudmouth was on May 25th, as support to Bryon at what was then Warrnambools' haven for original bands, The Caledonian Hotel.

Loudmouth built up a reputation of sorts in Warrnambool, playing skate ramp parties and organising their own All-Ages shows.Loudmouth also rebelled against the strong (entrenched) blues scene of the area (with songs like "I'd rather be a roadie than a lagerphone player"), as well as the staid local council, which would not allow condom vending machines to be placed in public toilets ("Geriatric Councillor"). Scandal seemed to follow Loudmouth (not really, it just sounds good to say that), with the band being asked to leave one (poorly promoted) gig in Geelong for being too loud and driving away the regulars in the Public Bar.  They were cheated of success at a band competition where some members of the striped shirted crowd spat beer and threw ice-cubes at them.  The management of the hotel wanted a local band to win so people would come back next week and drink heaps! Since the release of the Brenda O'Connor EP in March 1993, Loudmouth have been on extended holidays, for it was then that Dave decided to move to Queensland to follow work opportunities.  He is still up there. With each of the members at times living in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide, Loudmouth are now more of a group of friends who enjoy playing music together than a band.  Lately, gigs have been more of a Christmas get together.  But Loudmouth is always a part of each of its members, and they're always looking forward to the next chance to play. Gary was playing in Blacklist and Gacy's Place in Adelaide (a split 7" available through Spiral Objective Records), and
Dave is banging away in Disrupt Youth in Brisbane (two 7" and a soon to be released album through Beer City Records). Mick is in a band in Melbourne (I've forgotten the name) and Robbie is in Warrnambool.

The Doctor and the Apologies

The Doctor and the Apologies
Continuing the proud tradition of Aussie musicians nicknamed The Doctor, Matt Neal has been playing in rock bands (The 80 Aces, The Extreme Sprinklers, 21st Century Ox) for almost 20 years. In that time, he's been played on Rage and triple j, supported the likes of You Am I, Something For Kate and Dallas Crane, and won awards for his songwriting. Recently, he released the alt-country-ish EP The Party No One Can Recall. He's been banging on about doing that EP for years. On the
plus side, it features the awesome talents of Jarrod Hawker (The 80 Aces), Brady Jones (Red Eagle), John Hudson (Shane Howard) and Joe Gardner (Red Eagle). Together they are Doctor & The Apologies.

Cooper Lower

Cooper Lower

Cooper Lower is a 16 year old singer/songwriter based in Warrnambool, Victoria. (born 1999)
He states: "My motivation is to produce original music that provokes both thought and perspective to the listener. Powerful and influential music has played a pivotal role in my development both as a person and as a musician."Cooper's debut EP titled 'Just A Thought' was released in early September of 2015. The EP consists of five original tracks and has received commendable reviews in regards to songwriting and instrumentation.
Track 5 is called Deluded Minds. He wrote this song trying to imagine what it would be like to live with a severe mental disability or psychiatric illness/disorder. i.e. Autism, Schizophrenia, Severe Bipolar, Chronic Depression etc. He often wonders what goes through the mind of someone who is not able to communicate. This song also touches on the common belief that a person with a mental disability cannot be as intelligent, thoughtful or caring as an abled person. In this song he frequently refers back to 'the man with the lesser mind'. A classic example of a group of people underestimating a person with learning difficulties.
