Cooper Lower is a 16 year old singer/songwriter based in Warrnambool, Victoria. (born 1999)
He states: "My motivation is to produce original music that provokes both thought and perspective to the listener. Powerful and influential music has played a pivotal role in my development both as a person and as a musician."Cooper's debut EP titled 'Just A Thought' was released in early September of 2015. The EP consists of five original tracks and has received commendable reviews in regards to songwriting and instrumentation.
Track 5 is called Deluded Minds. He wrote this song trying to imagine what it would be like to live with a severe mental disability or psychiatric illness/disorder. i.e. Autism, Schizophrenia, Severe Bipolar, Chronic Depression etc. He often wonders what goes through the mind of someone who is not able to communicate. This song also touches on the common belief that a person with a mental disability cannot be as intelligent, thoughtful or caring as an abled person. In this song he frequently refers back to 'the man with the lesser mind'. A classic example of a group of people underestimating a person with learning difficulties.
