The mood was mellow and the gardens bristled with picnic hampers as an estimated 3000 people enjoyed Saturday's Jazz in the Gardens. Families, couples and friends got together to hear Tabasco Jazz and award-winning quartet the Fats spin improvised phrases and work their way through jazz standards in the botanical surrounds. Rockabilly outfit Slap 'N' the Cats finished off the day with a generous set that extended into the late afternoon and moved many to dance. In between acts there were boutique beers, wines, gourmet sausages and other fare to keep the crowd in high spirits. Wunta chairman Robert Brown estimated 3000 went and concluded the formula for Jazz in the Gardens was just right. He said the event was a winner and would be back again next year.
