Angelique Pudalt is ready to pack her bags and wheel out of Portland to perform in a major singing event for amateur artists at the Tamworth Country Music Festival. Ms. Pudlat, 29, received an extra special birthday surprise in November when her application to sing at the Toyota Starmaker 2000 event was accepted. An excited Ms. Pudlat said last night fund-raising efforts since she found out about her selection had gone well with $2000 in donations received and a bus and driver offered to transport her to the event free of charge. Funds were raised at a seaside barbecue held in Portland last week and businesses had also donated money to her appeal, she said. "People have been really supportive in Portland and behind me all the way". Ms. Pudlat said she would set up a fund for artists in a similar situation with any money left over from her trip. She said she was looking forward to performing at the event on January 21 and was hoping to perform in finals being held the next night. "I'm nervous but excited. It's a great feeling. I'm on top of the world at the moment", she said. Excited about performing at an event associated with Australian country music leaders Lee Kernaghan, his sister Tania Kernaghan and Adam Brand, Ms. Pudlat is hoping to come away from the event with a recording contract.
