Pass on my best wishes to Peter. I had a few lessons with Peter in the early 2000s. What a blast. You know he played lead trumpet for a while in the Daly Wilson Big Band. That is like being Usain Bolt in terms of performance level. I hope he is still well. Chris Hamilton formerly of Mount Gambier. ultrabat@gmail.com
Hey Chris, hope you’re well! I’m Albert (Peter’s son) I was just looking up some info online about him and came across this. Shoot me an email at albertsaltmusic@gmail.com, would love to chat more about dad.
Hi, I came across this page as I was looking up some info. My father, Vin O'Keeffe, taught Peter Salt to play trumpet in Terang, Victoria. Interestingly, Ron Sandilands, one of Australia's greatest drummers in his time, was also in Terang Victoria playing with Dad, and Peter at the same time. Apparently Peter was only a young fella of 12 or 13 when Dad told him he couldn't teach him anything further, as Peter had completely exhausted Dad of everything he knew. To put this into context, my Dad was a great muso, and himself played with some great bands, and backed some great performers..even Colleen, Hewitt, Marcia Hines, BeeGees at one point. When Peter Salt's career took off, Dad would receive a copy of an album or tape from Peter in the mail - Daly Wilson Big Band and other big bands etc... Dad was always thrilled to get something from Peter, and was extremely proud of him and his talent.
