MAKING WAVES: Indigo Children band members Brady Gunn, Henry Jacobs, Tim Bayne and Edward Jacobs
Warrnambool Standard 17th Feb. 2017 A HOMECOMING gig at The Loft on Saturday night will hold special significance for the four-piece band Indigo Children. The gig will be the vehicle for the Warrnambool launch of their debut EP Creature of the Ocean. The band is made up of Henry Jacobs (lead vocals, guitar), Edward Jacobs (bass, vocals), Tim Bayne (drums, percussion, vocals) and Brady Gunn (guitar, keys). All four are originally from Warrnambool with Henry Jacobs the only one still living in the town with the others having moved to Melbourne. Despite this, Edward Jacobs said the chance to play in Warrnambool is always special. “It’s great when we have a show in town, The Loft is an awesome venue to play at,” Jacobs said. “We’ve all still got a lot of good mates here so it’s always a good night.” Warrnambool performers Goose, Saol and Lemonbait will be the support acts for Indigo Children. Creature of the Ocean is a five-track EP featuring the songs In My Dreams, Odd Timing For You, Baby K, Tidal Peak and Creature of the Ocean. Jacob’s describes the band’s sound as pop-psychedelic- rock, heavily influenced by The Beatles and others from the 1960s when this genre was at the forefront of music. “Our father listened to a lot of The Beatles and a lot of music like that when me and Henry were growing up so it has had a big influence on us,” Jacobs said. “That comes through in our music and we can then put our own stamp on it. “We have been playing as a band for about four years, we started as a three-piece. “Brady came in a couple of years ago and that has broadened our range a fair bit. “It has also freed Henry up to explore a bit more with his guitar.” The EP contains all original songs, ranging from the light pop of the opening track, In My Dreams, to the heavier title track, Creature of the Ocean. This last track has been released as a single. The band held a single launch at the Yarra Hotel in Melbourne on January 6. This was followed up by a Melbourne EP launch at the Evelyn Hotel on January 27. Jacobs said the band has been playing spasmodically but expects this to increase now the EP has been launched. He said the aim is to keep playing strong live sets and to grow their list of original songs with the number of these now pushing into double figures. While the band habours ambitions, Jacobs said the love of playing together remains the key to its success. “We really enjoy doing what we do,” Jacobs said.
