CD Review -- The Flute Player -- Angela Preiss.

Warrnambool Standard 1/10/1998 - by Kylie Smith - Copyright Warrnambool Standard 1998.

If  The Flute Player was a landscape, it would be a still Scottish loch surrounded by craggy mountains swathed in mist. Angela Preiss' evocative sounds of flute and tin whistle are about as Celtic as it gets, covering traditional Irish and Scottish tunes as well as original tracks. Preiss is joined by Scotsman Don Grieve on guitar - the Port Fairy-based pair usually combine sounds to form the duo Flint.
In the case of  The Flute Player, classical trained flautist Preiss takes the lead, both as instrumentalist, and with credits for production, mixing and arrangement. Sounds of The Flute Player range from soaring and melancholy to energetic enough to make you want to whip out your kit and sporran and dance a few jigs - highly recommended for those of the Celtic bent. The pair tour South Australia and appear at the Victor Harbour Music Festival in October before a Queensland tour in November. They return in December.
