TWO Warrnambool bands will face their greatest test this weekend when they travel to the Queenscliff Music Festival to take part in the second round of the Push Start battle of the bands competition. Nu-metallists Negative Hold and energetic young band Sicfest 46 will take there frenetic live shows to the festival on Sunday in the hopes of going on to play at Push On in Melbourne next year. It will be a big weekend for both bands, as they are also supporting Testeagles on Saturday at the Civic Hall, along with Vigilante and Zygoma. Doors open for that gig at 7pm. Negative Hold vocalist Adam B. Miles said his band had been preparing intensely for the 20-minute set at Queenscliff. “We’ve put our butts into gear the last month or so,” Miles said, adding he had been working to integrate a new sampler into the band’s live sound. Due to age restrictions, this will be the nu-metal quartet’s final chance to participate in Push Start. “We’ve all got that in mind,” he said. “Hopefully we’ll get a place to justify going all that way for a 20-minute set.” This year’s Queenscliff Music Festival is shaping up to be even bigger than last year with a stellar line-up organised to cater for every musical taste. One of the latest big name musicians to be added to the list include Australian rock legend Billy Thorpe, famous for such hit songs as Most People I Know (Think That I’m Crazy) and Poison Ivy. The Queenscliff line-up also includes some other well-known names in Australian music history such as former Daddy Cool frontman Ross Wilson, piano legend David Helfgott, Richard Clapton, The Church and The Waifs. Things Of Stone And Wood will also perform and will feature Warrnambool’s own Richard Tankard on keyboards. Another south-west identity, Andy Alberts, will play at Queenscliff with his band The Walkabouts. The festival kicks off this Friday and will run all weekend.
