MORE than 50 musicians will gather in Camperdown on Sunday to raise funds for the restoration of the town's Robert Burns statue. The line-up includes Don Grieves and Angela Preiss, who recently released an entire album dedicated to Burns, plus Camperdown's well renowned musician Peter Daffy. Warrnambool and District Pipes and Drums will also perform, as will the Melbourne Scottish Fiddle Club and the Camperdown Arts' Tune A Week group. Dr John Menzies of the pipes and drums band said the Scottish poet was “a hero of all classes” and the statue was important to Camperdown. “Camperdown's statue is a permanent reminder that people came out here with a bible and a book of Burns,” Dr Menzies said. “Peter (Daffy) and I hope that his concert will help more people understand why it is significant and what it represents.” “What is really important is public appreciation of Burns' written work and the place it holds in our heritage. ” The concert starts at 2pm at Camperdown's Theatre Royal.
