Dead Livers live again

Its been a long time between drinks for the Dead Livers. The Melbourne-based band last played in Warrnambool about six years ago when their bass guitarist Michael Schack moved to the seaside city. Now with disbanded groups behind them the Livers have got together again and will perform the Criterion Hotel on Saturday night. Schack said yesterday Port Fairy held another watering hole they frequented and, so much did they like the venue, the Star of the West, that it moved them to put out a single about the hotel. That single was followed by another release, "I'd love to have a joint with Willy [sic]" a parody to Slim Dusty's hit. During the 14 years the Livers have been together they have built up quite a repertoire of original songs which they also mix with popular items during their gigs. The habit of regrouping every so many years was not a planned one according to Schack. "Basically people kept asking us to play at different things for a couple of years so we used to have a reunion for special occasions," he said. Schack said the members, Rodger Delfos on rhythm guitar, John Berto on lead, Brendan Mitchell on pedal steel guitar, lead vocalist Marty Atchison, Richard O'Keefe on drums and Schack on bass were no longer committed to other bands and had time to concentrate on the Livers again. He added that if all went well the next time they play at Warrnambool would not be for another six years. "If it goes well we'll repeat it soon", Schack said. The Dead Livers will be supported by the Yarpturk Ramblers as well as singer/songwriter Duncan McKenzie.
